The Amen Corner is a powerful story of Sister Margaret’s struggle with her son, who is torn between using his musical gift for God and pursuing the jazz musician lifestyle of his dying father, and her own struggle with forgiveness. Sister Margaret pastors at a Pentecostal church in New York and her congregation, as well as her sister Odessa, has begun to notice a change in her piano playing son, David. When her ex-husband, a dying jazz musician, returns to New York, Sister Margaret must deal with old issues from the past.
David is also forced to deal with issues he has with his mother and father. After a few members of the congregation discover secrets from her past, Sister Margaret has to literally ‘practice what she preaches.’ The play contains themes of religion, devotion, loyalty and forgiveness and is directed by Dr. Rodney Clark. Dr. Kathy Bullock is the director of music.
The Amen Corner will be showing October 5-6 and October 10-13 at 8:00 pm in McGaw Theatre, Jelkyll Drama Center. Tickets will be on sale for $5-$10 prior to the shows. For reservations and ticket information call the Box Office at (859) 985-3000.
