| Karcher is New VP for Business & Administration
Steven D. Karcher is Berea College’s new vice president for business and administration. Karcher began his duties Nov. 12. He succeeds Diane Kerby in the position, who retired after 31 years with Berea at the end of November.
Before joining Berea, Karcher served for eight years as vice President for finance and administration and chief financial officer with the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC), an independent student aid agency based in Winooski, Vt. As the agency’s chief financial and administrative officer, Karcher was responsible for the areas of finance, treasury, human resources, information technology, facilities, investment and risk management, purchasing, development and Vermont’s Higher Education Investment Plan.
Prior to that, Karcher served for two years as vice president for business affairs and treasurer at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa. From 1992-1997, at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester Vt., he held positions as controller and later associate vice president for finance. Karcher also taught graduate level courses there in financial management, financial and cost accounting and financial management for non-profit organizations.
Karcher is a certified public accountant. He earned his B.S. degree in agricultural economics from Cornell University and a M.S. degree in accounting from Binghamton University.
Karcher has been active in community, educational and service organizations throughout his career, including several organizations and mentoring programs for youth and teens. A musician who plays both trumpet and keyboards, he has served as a music minister as well as performed with groups in Vermont and Pennsylvania ranging from gospel and liturgical groups to blues, rock, big band jazz and brass bands. Karcher also is a fisherman who enjoys most things outdoor.
He and his wife, Noreen, reside in Berea and are the parents of two college-age children.
