| Berea Knocks Off Preseason #1 Asbury
The Berea College Mountaineers used a balanced scoring attack to knock off the preseason KIAC favorite Asbury Eagles on January 29.
Senior forward Jordan Samuels led the Mountaineers in scoring (19 points) and junior forward Charles Wandera earned a double-double in points (16) and rebounds (12). Sophomore guard Mikah Turner threw in 18 points but his most memorable play came on defense when he came from off the ball for a monstrous block that kept Berea’s winning momentum. Freshman guard Nick Britt’s steady hand doled out five assists and only one turnover.
Berea built a nine point lead midway through the first half, but Asbury chipped away at the lead and closed the gap to three at halftime. The Mountaineers showed some poise and hustle late in the game with a couple of put-back buckets to seal the win, 89-84.
Berea improves to 3-1 in the conference.
The Mountaineer’s next game is at home against Indiana University East this Saturday, February 2.
