Two of the winners were entered in the event’s poster contest. Tian Wei and Kaleigh McCoy came in first and second place respectively. Wei’s poster was on the effect of gender, condition, and comparative ignorance on investment and confidence, while McCoy’s was titled: “Where have all the students gone? Factors influencing the retention and academic success of students who entered Berea College in the Fall of 2006.” There was also a paper competition in which Holly Hockstok came in second place for her paper titled: “The effects of stereotype threat, gender, and time on anxiety and puzzle performance.”
These achievements are even more outstanding when put in full context. Overall, there were a total of forty-two undergraduates, representing ten different regional colleges and universities including East Tennessee State and the University of Memphis.
