| Sweet! Candy Breaks Records
Senior forward Candy Walls broke two school records while her team hosted St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Jan. 17.
You would think Berea's huge margin of victory, 110-29, would be the story line, but two broken records stopped the presses.
Walls set new marks in points scored in a game and in the number of three pointers made.
The old record for most points scored in a game was 47, set by Debbie Wallace in 1979. The most three pointers made in a game was set by Rebecca Mays in 2006 when she hit 11 three pointers.
“I am feeling really excited," said Walls after her record-breaking performance. "It just shows hard work pays off and the commitment from everybody. I couldn’t have done this without my teammates. They sacrificed a lot to get me the ball. I am very happy, especially with our team chemistry right now.”
Last week Candy Walls was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 5th-11th. Currently Walls has a career total of 1,674 points and 835 rebounds in her four years on the court. In addition to her list of impressive accomplishments, her team is ranked first in total rebounds and three-point percentage in division II. Also, the team is ranked second in assists, offensive rebounds, and scoring offense in division II.
Oh, about those records... how does 51 points and 12 three-pointers sound? Yeah, and that was done in 23 minutes of playing time.
