| Walls Is National Player of the Week
Senior forward Candy Walls has been selected as the NAIA Women’s Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 25, 2009. She earned the honor for the second consecutive week.

Walls, a native of Stanton, Ky., averaged 30.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in two road wins for the Mountaineers last week. She scored 31 points, cleared 16 rebounds and handed out six assists against UC Clermont and then recorded 29 points and 14 rebounds against Midway (Ky.). Walls also averaged 4.0 assists during the week.
Earlier this year Walls broke two school records while her team hosted St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Jan. 17. She set a new high-scoring mark of 51 points in a game. After hitting 12 three pointers, she also established a new record for the most three pointers made in a game. She accomplished both in only 23 minutes of playing time.
Berea’s old record for most points scored in a game was 47, set by Debbie Wallace in 1979. The most three pointers made in a game was set by Rebecca May in 2006 when she hit 11 three pointers.
Currently Walls has a career total of 1,743 points and 884 rebounds in her four years on the court. In addition to Walls’ list of impressive accomplishments, the Lady Mountaineers team is ranked first in total rebounds and three-point percentage in division II. Also, the team is ranked second in assists, offensive rebounds, and scoring offense in division II.
On Feb. 5 Berea plays on the road at Alice Lloyd College. Their next home game is against Midway College on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. (change from original time) in Seabury Center.
