Listen to her earlier presentation with Peanut Butter and Gender, a weekly gathering sponsored by Women's Studies.
Dr. Shiva, Indian physicist and environmental activist, is a world leader in the “alterglobalization movement.” She advocates for change in the practice and paradigms of agriculture and food by putting ecology and women’s traditional agricultural practices at the center of the global economic development debate. Her twenty books cover intellectual property rights, biodiversity, biotechnology, bioethics, and genetic engineering.
Shiva presented Bereans with the world food crisis by blending scientific evidence in an approachable and easy going manner. By using her sense of humor, she had students engaged and curious about the food crisis. Bereans left the convocation understanding how America affects the global world, and what the terms globalization and food crises mean.
This convocation was co-sponsored by Women’s Studies, who also hosted Shiva during Peanut Butter and Gender earlier in the afternoon.
