Despite Aaron Bee’s two homeruns in the first game the Mountaineers could not defeat Davenport, who had two high-scoring innings. They scored four runs in the second inning and five runs in the seventh inning in a game when Berea’s pitchers threw no strike outs.
“The outfielders just stood and watched when Bee came up to bat. It just went right over their heads,” said freshman Heath Potter. Along with his two runs and a hit on his third at bat, Bee also had six putouts in the game.
Brian Hill, a junior pitcher and captain for the Mountaineers, drove in three runs during four at bats. Sophomore short stop Evan Ethington recorded three hits in four at bats and had five putouts in the game.
In the second game the Mountaineer’s offense struggled to score just one run while Davenport sealed the win by scoring nine runs in the fifth inning. Pitcher Bubba Owens threw five strike-outs, but gave up seven runs and walked eight batters.
