| Berea College announces Westervelt technology courses for fall 2009
The Westervelt program sponsored by the Berea College Technology Department for Fall 2009 will begin on September 8.
This fallís three courses will focus on photography and will be taught by Dr. Alan Mills. Classes will meet on Tuesday and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
To register please call Sandy Wells at 859-985-3033 between the hours of 8 a.m and 5 p.m. beginning September 1. There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee for each course. In addition, students will be responsible for the cost of any materials used. All classes are limited to 17 participants. Participants must be at least 18 years old to enroll in the Westervelt program. Also, participants will need a digital camera.
Sept. 8 - Oct. 1: Basic Photography
During this session participants will explore the fundamentals of photography. Instruction will cover traditional film and darkroom photography as well as digital photography. Participants will learn about exposure, quality of light, effective composition techniques and print making
Oct. 8 - Nov. 3 : Photoshop for Photographers
This session will provide a down-to-earth and practical introduction to the digital darkroom. Using Photoshop participants will learn to make basic edits such as cropping, brightness, contrast and color adjustments. Building on the fundamentals, students will also work with layers, levels, curves and creative filters.
Nov. 5 - Dec. 8: Printing, Framing and Displaying Photographs
The initial phase of this session will focus on making digital prints using Photoshop and inkjet printers. Following this, participants will learn how to mat and frame their photographs. Alternative display methods such as digital frames and digital photo books will also be explored.
