Leading musicians from across Appalachia converged in Berea for the 36th Annual Celebration of Traditional Music, Oct. 15-18. The event was hosted and organized by Berea College’s Loyal Jones Appalachian Center in association with the Kentucky Arts Council.
The event celebrated homemade music in the Appalachian region and the musicians who play it. Old-time string band music, blues, traditional gospel singing, ballads, and acoustic instruments were featured in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Performers included the Horse Flies, the Whitetop Mountain Band, Sparky and Rhonda Rucker, John Haywood and the Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble, among others.
The festival featured jam sessions and opportunities to learn how to sing, play, and dance to the traditional music. The Horse Flies began the CTM by performing at the convocation on Thursday, Oct. 15.
