World Massage Festival @ Berea

June 17-21: Berea College will host the 2010 World Massage Festival and Massage Therapy Hall of Fame, June 17-21. Berea was chosen not only for the wide selection of meeting rooms & support services available, but also because of the enthusiastic support received from the campus administration, the Berea Tourism Center and the Berea Chamber of Commerce.

Looking for a new job? Interested in natural healing? Massage Therapy may be just the ticket! Speak with other therapists, visit the tradeshow and learn how you could get involved in the field.

The businesses that support the massage industry with products and information, also gather at the Festival tradeshow to promote their products and introduce new and innovative solutions for the practicing therapist. Exhibitors this year include massage product suppliers, recorded music, herbal and holistic products, hand crafted jewelry, wearable items like clothing and shoes, healthy chocolate and much more.

The general public is invited to attend the tradeshow and other activities that are planned for each Festival, such as demonstrations of various massage techniques and informational presentations that will educate the public about the healing properties of massage therapy and bodywork.

On Thursday, June 17, the Festival will join up with the Bluegrass Jam at the Tourism Bureau and participate in the weekly jam session. On Sunday, Appalachian singer/songwriter Carla Gover will be performing at 1 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall in Seabury Arena.

“Sanctuary” will also be joining the Festival this year, offering a variety of massage techniques for $10 each. All proceeds will be donated to the Shriner Children’s Hospital.

The Festival was founded in 2006 by Mike Hinkle to provide a platform for professional massage therapists and bodyworkers to showcase their talents and abilities. Along with the Festival, Hinkle created the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.

Each year, 12 individuals and one institution are chosen to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. It is a way for therapists around the world to honor those who have laid the foundations for their profession.

During each Festival, massage therapists can register to attend quality, continuing education workshops, taught by some of the leaders in the industry. Hinkle attempts each year to make the cost of these workshops as inexpensive as possible and at the same time to provide a variety of unique experiences for the attendees at the Festival.
