Faculty Changes for 2004-2005

There will be several changes in faculty at BC beginning in the 2004-2005 year.

Professor Richard Sears, Chair of the Department of English, Theatre, and Speech Communication, will be leaving his position. Associate Professor Verlaine McDonald has agreed to serve as Chair of the Department of English, Theatre, and Speech Communication. Professor Martha Beagle, Chair of the Department of Physical Education and Health will also be leaving her role as chair. Associate Professor Susan Spalding has agreed to serve as Chair of Physical Education and Health.

A number of faculty have also agreed to replace other members who are currently on sabbatical. Associate Professor Katherine Christensen has agreed to serve as acting Chair of the History Department and Assistant Professor Jeff Richey has agreed to serve as acting Coordinator for the Asian Studies Minor while Associate Professor Rob Foster is on sabbatical for the 2004-05 academic year. Associate Professor Linda Strong-Leek will serve as the acting Director of Women's Studies while Associate Professor Peggy Rivage-Seul is on sabbatical for the 2004-05 academic year. Professor Don Hudson will serve as the acting Chair of the Technology and Industrial Arts Department while Professor Gary Mahoney is on sabbatical for fall 2004 and short term 2005. Professor Smith T. Powell will serve as the acting Chair of the Department of Physics while Professor Amer Lahamer is on sabbatical for fall 2004 and short term 2005. Associate Professor John Heyrman will serve as the acting Chair of the Political Science Department while Professor Mike Berheide is on sabbatical for fall 2004 and short term 2005.

In addition, the Board of Trustees granted a number faculty tenure and promotions to take effect in the 2004-2005 year. Assistant Professors Sean Clark and Brenda Hosley were granted tenure by the Board of Trustees in February, that Associate Professors Kathy Bullock, Ed McCormack, Gary Mahoney, and Roy Scudder-Davis were promoted to the rank of Professor by the Board of Trustees in May, and that Professor Richard Sears is appointed to the Chester D. Tripp Memorial Chair in Humanities.
