Fall 2004 Orientation Schedule

The following is schedule for the Fall 2004 Orientation Week for newly arriving students at Berea College.

*Events marked with an asterisk are optional; all students are expected to attend all other events.


SATURDAY, AUGUST 28

9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Check-in for students who will live in a residence hall.(Student's assigned residence hall)


9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Check-in for nonresidential students. (Alumni Building, Front Desk)

10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
First opportunity to pick up College Post Office (CPO) box assignment. (Woods-Penniman Building, Lower Level)

11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Financial Aid Counseling and PaymentArrangements (if required; see check-in binder for details.) (Lincoln Hall, First Floor)


12:00–12:45 p.m.
*Lunch: this meal will be provided for students through the meal plan at Dining Services. Families/guardians may purchase meals at current prices
there or may choose to dine elsewhere.(Alumni Building, Dining Services)

3:00–4:00 p.m.
Ceremony of Dedication. Students and family members or guardians. (Phelps Stokes Chapel)
(Since students will meet with their advisers after the Ceremony of Dedication, family members and guardians should plan to say “good-bye” to their students before this program begins.)

4:30–6:30 p.m.
Dinner hosted by Adviser.(Meet your adviser on the lawn outside Phelps Stokes.)

7:00–9:00 p.m.
Welcome to the Neighborhood. Student's first chance to meet your residence hall staff, floor mates, building community members, new friends and new family in your new home away from home. (student’s assigned residence hall)



SUNDAY, AUGUST 29

9:45 a.m.
Resident students meet to depart for Residence Hall Lobby (Phelps Stokes Chapel.)

10:00–11:30 a.m.
All People of the Earth: Spotlight on Berea’s Spiritual Expressions. Casual dress is acceptable.(Phelps Stokes Chapel)

11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
*Interested students should sign up for auditions for Black Music Ensemble,Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Choir, and Women's Chorus (You should not sign up for an audition during the time you are scheduled to receive your laptop computer; see your binder for that appointment time.)

3:00–5:00 p.m.
*Black Cultural Center Community Social. Opportunity for African-American students to learn about the many
programs and services available and to meet other students, faculty and staff of the College and representatives from local churches, Black Student Union, and Black Music Ensemble. All students are welcome. Refreshments provided. (Woods-Penniman, The Commons)

3:00–5:00 p.m.
*Campus Ministry Fellowship. The Campus Christian Center invites all students to meet the Student Chaplains and representatives from the many Christian organizations on campus. Come and learn abut the many Christian activities and events that occur at Berea College. Enjoy refreshments and talk with the three full-time College Chaplains. We look forward to meeting you! (Woods-Penniman, Cafe area)

3:00–5:00 p.m.
*International Center Open House. First opportunity to visit the International Center to learn about Study Abroad opportunities and multicultural programs. Refreshments provided. (Woods-Penniman, The International Center)

3:00–6:30 p.m.
*Auditions for Black Music Ensemble, Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, and Women’s Chorus. If you did not sign up at the 10:00 session, you will be worked into the schedule as time permits.

Residence Hall Meetings: Learn about life in a residence hall, ask questions, and get to know your staff. (Residence Halls)

MONDAY, AUGUST 30
