As a principal part of the weekend long homecoming celebration, the parade will feature 16 Berea College homecoming candidates and various Berea College clubs and organizations. Starting at Berea Community School, the parade winds its way up around Ellipse Street and through Chestnut Street into the heart of the Central Campus.
The parade is a great opportunity for the community to rally around the weekend excitement. The parade always features an impressive array of community organizations including Fire and Police departments. College organizations create and display floats for their respective organizations for cash prizes totaling $225. From the chemistry department to the saddle club the variety is a representation of a campus with diverse interests. The homecoming court tours in an impressive array of convertibles supplied by local Berea residents. Candy is, of course, a standard attraction for youngsters and college students are eager to throw it at unsuspecting professors. The college jazz band will attend this year for a special pep band performance not unlike a traditional marching band appearance.
Planned by the Homecoming Steering Committee and the Student alumni relations Council the parade also includes face painting, children’s games and free hot chocolate on the Fairchild Residence Hall Lawn. The event promises to be bigger than ever this year and in general sets the homecoming festivities in full swing.
