Dr. Chella David, ’61, and W. M. Davis, ’50, will each be awarded Berea’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

David leads the largest laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., with 30 researchers studying the genetics behind diseases that include cancer, arthritis, diabetes and AIDS to help patients suffering from these diseases. Davis is a retired Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
In all, four alumni and a retired Berea College history professor will be honored during Berea Homecoming 2004 activities Nov. 19-21.
Other homecoming activities this year will include the Black Student Union Homecoming Pageant beginning 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Phelps Stokes Chapel. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for all others.
The College's Theatre Laboratory production of ”Metamorphoses,” a retelling of Ovid’s myths, will be performed at 8 p.m. in the McGaw Theatre of Jelkyl Drama Center on Friday and Saturday evenings. For reservations and tickets, call the box office at (859) 985-3300.
Saturday morning’s parade down Chestnut Street, on the theme “Catch the Berea Spirit,” will begin at 11 a.m. (cancelled if raining). At noon, Reunion lunches and class photos are scheduled for the classes of '79, '84, ’89, '94, '99' and '04.
A host of activities is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The Black Music Ensemble fall concert in Union Church begins at 1 p.m. and the Gordon Ross Skittles Tournament at the Log House Craft Gallery is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. From 3 – 5 p.m., alumni are invited to take part in an on-going oral history project by sharing their favorite memories of Berea on videotape during an open house in the Public Relations Department located in the new Visitor’s Center at College Square.
Seabury Center will be the site of three basketball games on Saturday. The Lady Mountaineers will take on Miami University-Hamilton College at 5:30 p.m. At 7:30, the Men's Varsity team will play Miami University-Hamilton, with the Coronation of Homecoming queen and king taking place at halftime. Earlier in the afternoon, at 2 p.m, the Men’s Junior Varsity team will play a team of alumni, coached by Craig Jefferson, “80.
Festivities on Saturday conclude with a Student/Alumni Reception in Baird Lounge from 9 p.m. – 12 a.m. and the Homecoming Dance for students and alumni in the Woods-Penniman Building from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m.
On Sunday morning, campus minister Rev. Randy Osborne will lead an Alumni Worship Service in Union Church at 10:45, featuring a performance by the Alumni Chapel and Concert Choir.
Tickets are required for the Alumni Banquet on Friday and for Saturday's luncheons. A Basketball ticket is good for admission to both the men’s and women’s games on Saturday.
