| Meet the Court: Homecoming 2004
Meet the candidates that will battle it out for the King and Queen coronation on November 20 at half time of the homecoming 2004 basketball game. These students come from as far as Mongolia and Japan, gathering from far and wide for a brief moment for a homecoming celebration, ironically, far from home.
Racheal Ndei of Alabaster, Alabama is a Pre-Medicine major. She is a member of the Baptist Student Union, African American Association, Cosmopolitan Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, International Christian Fellowship, Intervarsity (IV), and an R.A. of Pearsons Hall. She enjoys nature walks, reading, going on mission trips, and compiling scrapbooks. Her goal in life is to be a missionary. "I am nothing without Christ because He is everything to me."
Will "Will-Yum" Baumann of Greenville, TN is a Communications major. He is a member of the Concert Choir, Pride for Presser, Black Music Ensemble, Chairperson of Creative Ministries for Baptist Student Union, and Hall Coordinator of Bingham Hall. He likes tennis, racquetball, badminton, volleyball, soccer, and to sing. His goals in life include two degrees, one M.A. in higher education or student life and another in correspondence or journalism. In the future he would like to work in public relations or an image consulting firm. Gandiimaa Batnasan of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia is a Psychology major with a minor in French. She participates in track and cross country. Interested in learning different languages and cultures, she likes to travel to new places. Her future goal is to continue her education through graduate school. True to herself, she is determined to learn how to ride a horse. "What kind of Mongolian am I, that can't ride a horse, right?"
Chris "Wish" Awosika of Springfield, Ohio, is a Psychology major with a Sociology minor. He is a member of Psi Chi, Mortar Board, and the Psychology Club. He enjoys designing programs to help kids deal with anger and social problems in behavior institutes. He enjoys reading playing basketball, football, laser tag, and reading the Bible. His goals in life include becoming a psychologist, counselor, or psychotherapist, and skydiving. "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple." Psalms 25:4
Jodi Sumner of Cadiz, Kentucky is a Child and Families Studies major. He is Elizabeth Rogers' Hall Coordinator, Mortar Board Historian, Prevent Child Abuse Awareness and Reason for the Season coordinator, a Kappa Omicron Nu member, and a Berea Buddy. She enjoys volunteering, photography, hiking, camping, and loves to travel. Her goals are to travel more and achieve fluency in Spanish. "I want to spend my life helping others."
Paul "Japboy" Mikaelsen of Sendai, Japan is a Technology major. He is a member of International Christian Fellowship, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and drummer for SILO. He enjoys music and to jam with his band mates. His goals are to enjoy college and build stronger relationships with friends, teachers, and God. "Sarumo kikara ochiru- Even monkeys fall from trees."
ElBonita "EB" Hawkins of Lexington, Kentucky is a Child and Family Studies major with a Health minor. She is a member of Black Music Ensemble and a volunteer for Adopt-a-Grandparent. She enjoys writing poetry, hanging out with friends, and talking of the goodness of God. Her goals are to further her education, eventually receiving her Ph.D., and work in a children's hospital. "Hakuna Matata, because if God is for me, who can be against me?"
Hussene "Sup-a-sane" Youssouf of Atlanta, Georgia is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance. He enjoys playing baseball, participating in clubs, and has helped create an improved car and visitation policy. His goal is to own a restaurant or business firm. "I strive to do my very best each day so that I can make an impact for the world around me."
Beki Ogburn of Townsville, South Carolina is a Music major. She is Vice-President of the Concert Choir, Campus Inreach Chair, and a Baptist Student Union member. Her goals include becoming a public high school teacher and to sponsor music education in countries with no money for the arts in schools. "[Music] is the universal language, and serves to express emotions that are inexpressible by words or visuals."
Brett Bartscherer of Littleton, Colorado is a Technology Management major. He is Student Chaplain of Kentucky Hall, a member of Student Government Association, Baptist Student Union, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He enjoys drawing, hiking, skiing, golfing, and traveling. His goal is to go into the graphic design and architectural field post-graduation. He enjoys "promoting the love of Jesus Christ."
Krystie McCarson of Hendersonville, North Carolina is a Pre-Med and Biology major. She is historian of Black Music Ensemble, Pre-Med Club, Step Team and volunteers for Adopt-a-Grandparent and Habitat for Humanity. She enjoys to travel, dance, work out, and writing poetry. Her goals are to join Teach for America Corps, teach inner-city, underprivileged, minority children, and to attend medical school and practice medicine in a third world country.
LaRon Yow of Birmingham, Alabama is a History major. He participates in the track team, Black Student Union, and Unlimited Athletics track club. He enjoys intramurals, meeting people, and learning about history and ancient civilizations. His goal is to go to graduate school and from there earn his Ph.D. "It happens to the best of them, and I'm the best of them."
Mary Muncy of Louisville, Kentucky is an Elementary Education major. She participates in women's soccer and track, indoor soccer, football, Creative Ministries Sign Language group, and Berea Buddy. She likes to play the piano, sing, dance, take pictures, and plant flowers." Her goal is to work with children on a daily basis in some way. "I look for the good in life, and the God in people."
Eric Beiler of Lowville, New York is an Industrial Technology Management and Agricultural Resources in Sustainable Systems double major. He enjoys mountain biking, backpacking, canoeing, skiing, snowmobiling and hopes to return to New York someday. His goals are to spend some time in Alaska and also work with a Christian missionary organization in a developing country. "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10
Kelia Harris of Church Hill, Tennessee is a Communications major. She participates in cheerleading and enjoys talking, laughing, and "eating all the time." She's interested in dance choreography. Her goals are to graduate, get married, and raise her children.
