Dwight Overstreet, MC for the event kick started the festivities with a welcome to student supporters. Among those participating in the rally were members of the Berea College Pep band, a group organized and directed by Music professor Dr. Charles Turner, and student music major Cassie Redcorn. A number of tradition Pep Band favorites like YMCA, and Louie, Louie helped energize the incoming crowd.
After introductions and music, Overstreet brought up coaches and players from Berea's athletic teams to briefly discuss highlights from last year and goals for next years teams. Coach Bunky Harkleroad spoke on behalf of the womenís basketball team and mentioned several significant season accomplishments. Now leading the nation in total scoring the team's impressive roster promises longevity and a success through the duration of the year. Representatives form several other sports participated, including soccer player and School mascot, Matt Yeager. In a brief recap of the menís soccer season, Yeager noted Berea All-Conference player Mohammed Aiyegbo.
A half court shootout followed with contestants ranging from faculty to student athletes. Dr. Turner made a valiant attempt, but fell just short to members of the ladies basketball team.
The program closed with announcements of weekend events including the BSU pageant and the homecoming events tomorrow night. Overstreet stressed the athletic departmentís appreciation for this year's enthusiasm while the band closed with renditions of popular fight songs.
