On January 19, 2005, Berea College warmly wished farewell and congratulations on a job well done to utility employees.

Utility employees celebrate job well done at college reception.

The reception was held in honor of Berea College utility employees who, since the sale of the utilities to the City of Berea, would no longer be employed by the college. The sale was made to the city in interests that the utility operation be municipally owned. Throughout this process, Berea College lobbied for certain terms to be agreed upon, including continued employment for current employees.

Berea College operated the utilities for Southern Madison county for more than a century.
