After the Lady Mountaineers' victory over the Bethel Lady Cats, the team prepares to move into the KIAC Regular Season Championship as first seed next week for the first time in Berea College history.
Crystal Davis drives the ball to the basket
Berea Lady Mountaineers played the Bethel Lady Cats on February 17. It was an exciting game; neck and neck the two teams fought for the victory. Berea held the lead for most of the game, but the Cats kept the Mountaineers on their toes. Whenever the Cats would hiss, Berea snarled back.
Near the end of the game, Berea and Bethel were tied 87-87, and with only one minute left on the clock, Crystal Davis made a timely free throw, ensuring the win for Berea. With one second left in the game Bethel made their last attempt at a comeback and made a two point field goal, but the shot was not enough to catch up to the Lady Mountaineers. The final score was 90-89.
Freshman, Jessica Engle was the lead scorer with 12 points. Engle holds the record as third in the nation for three point field goals. Morrisa Benberry, senior, followed with 11 points. Benberry recently entered the 1,000 point club and continues to add to the number.
