| Organ Concert by BC's John Courter
The newly renovated pipe organ at Berea College will be featured in an organ concert this Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m.
The concert will be held in Gray Auditorium of Presser Music Building on the Berea campus. John Courter, professor of music and college organist, will perform music by composers from the 18th to the 21st centuries. Included are Bach, Buxtehude, Pachelbel, Franck, and Vierne. Since March is Women’s History Month, the program will also include pieces by Amy Beach, Libby Larsen and Mary Beth Bennett.
The Holtkamp Organ Company of Cleveland, builders of the original organ in 1970, enlarged and rescaled the organ for the renovated Presser Hall for music in 2003-04.
The former proscenium stage was eliminated in favor of a recital hall shape. The ceiling was raised 15 feet to enhance the acoustics and the organ was relocated to the stage from its original side position. The upholstered seats ensure that the acoustics are stable whether the room is occupied or empty.
All are invited to this free concert to hear the wonderful sounds of this new addition to Berea’s musical community.
