Dr. Javed Nazir, University of Michigan Human Rights Fellow, will present “Islamic Fundamentalism: Problems and Prospects,” in the Baird Lounge of the Alumni Building at 6 p.m. on April 20.

Nazir has spent 25 years in journalism in South Asia, writing mostly on politics and social issues, and most recently on the radicalization of religion and its impact on societies in South Asia and Afghanistan. He is the former editor of the Frontier Post, an independent English-language newspaper in Pakistan. Nazir first came to the University of Michigan in 2001-02 as a Journalist at Risk. In 2002-03, he served there as the Marsh Distinguished Professor in Communications. A Fulbright Scholar, Nazir is currently writing a book about about the predicament of minorities, mainly Christian, in Islamic countries.
