| BC Hosts National Episcopal Youth Event
Berea College welcomed young people and leaders from Episcopal dioceses throughout the United States Tuesday as they arrived for the Episcopal Youth Event – EYE 2005 – held on the Berea College campus July 26-31.
EYE groups enjoy their time at Berea by partaking in various activities around campus.
More than 1300 participants were expected to attend, including groups from dioceses as far away as the Caribbean.
The Episcopal Youth Event, held every three years, brings together high school age youth and adults from dioceses in all of the church’s nine provinces for a celebration and renewal of their faith. The Diocese of Lexington, led by Bishop Stacy Sauls, was the host diocese for EYE 2005. Designed by a team of youth and adults who represent the diversity of the Episcopal Church, EYE 2005 involved participants in a variety of worship, music, program and recreational activities throughout the campus. Attendees resided on Berea’s campus and in local hotels.
EYE 2005 is the largest event Berea has ever hosted and the college is honored to have been chosen, says college special programs director Dreama Gentry, who coordinated campus arrangements.
“The college and the city have collaboratively planned for EYE for over two years and we were excited about the opportunities the event presents. Hosting EYE provided us with the opportunity to introduce our community to young people and adults from throughout North America.”
