BC Unites for Seven Days of Sharing

The Berea College Campus Christian Center recently organized a fundraiser known as "7 Days of Sharing" in order to aid in hurricane relief efforts.

The event was an entire week of the college and community uniting for the good of the victims. By the week's end, the people of Berea had contributed $2,200. One large donation will be made to the American Red Cross and a smaller donation will benefit the Salvation Army. All of the money will further endeavors aiming to provide all of the victims and their families with shelter, food, water and other basic essentials.

Katie Basham, assistant Campus Minister at the Campus Christian Center, knew there was a great need for help and that bringing the community together would be the best way to get the job done. "We wanted a way for the community to come together and make a difference. It is harder to do when it is just an individual, but with everyone working together, it can make a huge difference." With such an excellent response, it is possible that another relief benefit may be in the works. Basham hinted, "We're definitely thinking about it. Hurricane relief for both Katrina and Rita need to be continuing efforts. We would like to do something else, possibly with another department."

If you would like more information on how to donate between campus fundraisers, check out the official websites for the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross. Remember, no donation is too small. Basham encourages, "I know that it is hard to make a difference with limited resources. But when we all come together, it makes it easier. It makes me look forward to seeing what we can do for our community and our world."
