This year's Mountaineer Team is comprised of nine freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors, and two seniors. Though a young team, Coach John Mills predicts, "If their mental toughness grows along with their physical toughness, then we're going to be competitive."
Last season, the Mountaineers were 8 - 17, with an average of 73.9 points per game, as compared to 100.33 points per game so far this season. Coach Mills was "most pleased" with the team's improvement in free throw shooting, growing from 63.6% last season to 72.5% this season.
The Mountaineers have a challenging match-up for the homecoming game on November 5 against long time rivals, the Milligan College Buffalos. The Mountaineers and the Buffalos have been battling it out since the 1947-1948 basketball season. Over the past 115 matches, Berea has won 60 games. Mills saw it fitting that Berea College play a storied rival for their Sesquicentennial year.
