"It was very hard. The competition was very stiff. Everyone was good," said Jamar Brown of the tournament. Brown and his partner, Morgan Younge, walked away with first place in the the Duo Interpretation category with their performance of a scene from "A Raisin in the Sun." Just behind Younge and Brown were Kristin Sams and Zack Kocher who took second place in the same category.
What set these two groups apart from the rest? According to Brown it was the seriousness of the pieces. He explains that judges are starting to see the performance aspect of the competition and are not as interested in humorous pieces. Jamar also won second place in the Poetry Interpretation category with a serious poem entitled "Dear Father" by J. Ivy.
Other Berea College winners included:
Jemisha Fields- Third Place, Poetry Interpretation
April Trent- Fifth Place, Programmed Oral Interpretation
Mark Cashwell- Fifth Place, Dramatic Interpretation
