| Lady Mountaineers Storm the King College Tornado
Dec. 14 - The Berea College Lady Mountaineers, led by junior guard Rebecca May, defeated the King College Tornado in a nip-and-tuck game in which Berea won the contest with a late game offensive surge.
The Lady Mountaineers played a fast paced game against the Lady Tornados of King College.
May, who passed the 1,000 point mark in a 28 point effort against Knoxville College, is averaging 22 points per game this season and is ranked #1 in NAIA division II in the number of three pointers made per game (5.9). May is only the sixth Berea women's player to enter the 1,000 point club.
Freshman sensation LaShondra Gray matched her career high with 22 points. Gray is averaging 15 points per contest, ranks #22 in NAIA division II in steals per game and #25 in three point field goals made per game.
Freshman center Sarah Hughes had her second best performance of the season by tossing in 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
Berea built a 16 digit lead early in the game before allowing their opponent to close the margin early in the second half. In a fast-paced, up tempo game in which Berea had 21 assists, the Lady Mountaineers continued to launch three point bombs while scoring 33 points from behind the arc. The Tornado managed to hit only one three pointer all game. Berea, who on average forces an astounding 29 turnovers per game, forced King College to give the ball up 34 times.
The Lady Mountaineers are now 7-2 this season.
