| May, Maybe Best Ever?
Junior forward Rebecca May (Waynesburg, KY) is rewriting the women's basketball record book at BC. During Berea's February 9 contest with Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Asbury College, May shattered her own single-season mark for points scored. The following day she became the school's career points leader by tallying 24 against Mid-Continent University. May has scored 523 points in 26 games this season and 1,432 for her career.
May scores 20 points per game while averaging just 22 minutes. She has taken a school-record 290 three-point shots and has made 129 of them, leading the NAIA. And while May is always dangerous on offense, she's anything but a one-dimensional talent. On the other end of the floor, the 5-9 May leads the Lady Mountaineers in defensive rebounds and blocked shots.
According to Berea coach Bunky Harkleroad, "Rebecca May is a special athlete. She is one of the most competitive players ever to come through our program. Rebecca is invaluable to us because she plays very hard and has a tremendous feel for the game. She's an incredible shooter from outside, and this season she has become more effective at taking the ball to the basket. She's one of the main reasons we've been able to run our system."
Since May enrolled at Berea in 2003, the Lady Mountaineers have recorded three consecutive 20-victory seasons. Before May arrived, the program had never enjoyed a 20-win campaign.
