BC's Ladies Soccer Team Comes Out Kickin'

If the home opener is any indication of the season ahead, the Lady Mountaineers Soccer Team will keep kicking the ball right into the goal.

The ladies took on Shawnee State in their first game of the season.

After winning 3 - 0 against Shawnee State in their first game this season, the team looks to have a challenging but successful season ahead of them. According to Coach Cary Tsamas, "standout matches" include games against Center College, Transylvania University, Union College and University of the Cumberlands.

Despite upcoming tough match-ups, the ladies are relying on both work ethic and team chemistry to pull them through. "I think all our lines, defense, midfield, and offense, are solid and very balanced. That would be our biggest strength - our balance," said Coach Tsamas.

After a grueling round of summer conditioning, which consisted of two practices a day for one week, the 18 ladies who came out to join the team were whittled down to a solid 15. This year's roster includes Bethany Robinson, Sr.; Maureen Kluesener, Sr.; Lacey Bostick, Jr.; Anna Hoone, Jr.; Patrice Riesenberg, Jr.; Abby Corbett, Jr.; Jessica Engle, Jr.; Annie Dillon, So.; Miranda Behn, So.; Sheena Hager, So.; Emily Schneider So.; Jayde Bohannon, So.; Jessica Proffitt, So.; Haleigh McGraw, Fr.; and Danielle Maggs, Fr.

Patrice Riesenberg enjoys her time on the field with her friends. "I love being on this team," She says. "They are apart of my family. The best thing about being on this team is how much fun I have when I am out on the field with them."

Bethany Robinson, a senior, has many great memories of the team in from her time playing with them. "But the number one memory," she asserts, "is winning conference my senior year. Wait that hasn't happened YET!

Though they lost their second and third games, Coach Tsamas is optimistic. "The important thing is for us to play good, sound and entertaining soccer," he commentd. "The girls seem to be further along at this point this year than last year. They are assimilating information and ideas quicker and implementing them quicker. They are buying into the idea of short passes on the ground, possession style soccer. As a coach, I can’t ask for anything else."
