Men, Women Advance in KIAC Tournament

Berea College's men's and women's basketball teams began post-season play with wins that move them one game closer to the conference championship.
In the men's bracket, No. 4 Berea defeated No. 5 Alice Lloyd on Feb. 22 86 - 75. The game was tightly contested most of the way through. The battle inside proved key as Berea (13 - 16) had 26 rebounds compared to 18 for Alice Lloyd (10 - 18).
Berea was led by a 30 point effort from Thomas Klimas. Klimas also had nine rebounds. Melvin Brown had 20 points and was 8 for 10 from the field. Jordan Samuels had 13 points and five assists.
Berea moves on to semifinal play on Feb. 23 when they will square off against No. 1 Spalding University at 2:00 p.m.
The women's team, ranked third in the conference, also advances to round two after defeating No. 6 Midway on Feb. 22 89 - 73. Berea’s passing led to a big advantage with 18 assists against Midway’s eight.
Berea’s (20 - 7) Rebecca May drilled 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Sarah Hughes topped the team in rebounds with seven. De-An Watkins also had seven rebounds with her 11 points.
The Lady Mountaineers advance to the semifinal round Friday at 6 p.m. to face No. 2 Indiana University Southeast.
