Berea’s (22 - 7) Rebecca May had 30 points to lead all scorers in the game. May combined with Candy Walls for nine rebounds each. Jenna Lowe also topped scoring efforts on the Mountaineers team with 12.
Alice Lloyd’s (16 - 12) advantage came on the boards. KIAC All Conference Player of the Year Becky Thomas had 21 rebounds for the game. Her 25 points also kept the team close late. Kaylan Richardson threw home 21 points for the Eagles. Chasity Fox kept the ball moving with her nine assists.
The last few minutes proved to be a nervous time for the team and fans. The Berea players on the bench held hands in anticipation while Berea fans were on their feet.
At the sound of the final buzzer, Berea rushed center court with celebration. The team quickly swarmed Rebecca May who was on the floor, crying with excitement. Following the award ceremony each of the ladies climbed the ladder to cut their own piece of the championship net. After the final piece was cut by Coach Bunky Harkleroad, he draped the net over May’s head for her outstanding performance.
Berea’s win gives them an automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Championship on March 7 - 13, 2007 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
